Did you know that without intention we are a rudderless ship on the sea? The wind and the tide push us to dangerous places and the monotonous rocking of the boat leaving us lulled into passivity. Letting go and going with the flow is great if you need a break. My summer often felt like I was in the sea of family events. I played, laughed and enjoyed my father, my kids, grandkids and brother. My boat tossed and turned and I saw and experienced new places and joys. What a blessing!
October is a time to refocus, and set our course for January. What do we want to accomplish by the end of the year? True intention is more than just striving to achieve our SMART goals (Specific, Measurable. Attainable, Relevant and Timebound). Intention is more than a thought or feeling; it is the underlying ‘why’ we are willing to push through challenges and struggles to reach our goals.
I often set too many intentions. I flit from one to another, never fully reaching my most important intention. I haven’t contemplated the implication of my intentions and used my other spiritual gifts to bolster my resolve.
This year will be different. I am going to
- Set only 1-3 intentions: one for work and one for family
- Ponder the ‘Why’ for my intention and imagine my bright future.
- Share my intentions with others so they can help me and keep me honest.
- Pray for help and guidance and look for opportunities
- Celebrate the successes towards my intention.
What are your intentions? Share them, commit to them and enjoy the ride towards them. Set sail for an amazing journey of discovery and mastery.
